Our work with glaucoma

It's estimated that 4.5 million people are blind due to glaucoma. While it is more common among older people, children can also be born with the condition.

Early diagnosis is key, as once vision is lost it cannot be restored. Luckily, two-year-old Laurence recently received surgery to relieve the pressure in his eye and save his sight.

Your gift could help support our work to raise awareness of, prevent and treat glaucoma - the second leading cause of blindness worldwide.

"I was worried about Laurence but now I am so happy with the results!" Laurence's mother Florence Kitimbo, Uganda

Satiya has congenital glaucoma in both eyes. Her sight started deteriorating when she was four years old and by the time she was seven, she had severe low vision.

She has received counselling and training in low vision devices, which has increased her confidence, but her sight will not improve.

Satiya used to go to school for blind children but is now in mainstream education, where she is excelling and is top of the class in many subjects.

"I am looking forward to going to university to study Political Science. I want to be a university lecturer" 20-year-old Satiya, Sri Lanka
