Sightsavers has been working in Pakistan since 1985 with the objective to develop eye care for the poorest people in both urban and rural areas, providing preventive services as well as a full range of treatments.
In developing countries loss of sight all too often leads to loss of dignity and independence, and a life of poverty. Aside from the human tragedy, costs in terms of lost productivity and the need for extra help constitute a significant economic burden, both at the family and national level.
Your gift will help to continue our work in Pakistan and could help provide:
- Cataract surgery, restoring sight to people in some of the poorest areas
- Working with government to provide Primary Eye Care services to areas previously poorly served
- Training and education for people who have low vision or are blind, giving them an opportunity to lead independent lives
- Screening in schools and clinics
- Support for the training of staff at all levels which are essential in the development of major eye care programmes
Country gift:
The gift you’ve been given can bring a brighter future to some of the poorest people in Pakistan. Thank you.

14-year-old Abdullah from Swabi, Pakistan, has been blind in both eyes since birth. After successful Orientation and Mobility training Abdullah can now lead an independent life.
Abdullah can walk fast without any assistance, especially when he enters his own street he moves very fast towards his home. He goes quickly to the market, which is over a kilometer away from his home, can easily distinguish and shop vegetables and fruits, feed his buffalo, go to the mosque and draw water from the well. He enjoys walking and roaming in the markets with his close friends. He also plays with other children.
Abdullah has mastered and learnt 26 chapters of the Holy Quran and has four left to go. He enjoys his walk to school, stopping for a while at the local fruit and vegetable seller and other shopkeepers to have a chat. He even does a bit of shopping.
He has a mischievous glint in his eye as he and his friends plan their next playtime after school!
